Bridal Fashion Week is just about wrapping up in New York City and I for one can’t get enough of all the sneak peaks from the runway. Having attended last fall, I can attest to how exciting the whirlwind of beautiful dresses are first hand. And while family commitments kept me from being their this year, Twitter updates from around the city were the next best thing.
Well lucky for me (and you!) my friend and resident bridal fashionista, Jessica Fox agreed to be White Thread’s bridal fashion week liaison. She buzzed around the city, press pass in hand, snapping pics of the hottest dresses and is guest blogging today on her favorite trends from this season.
Jessica is the former owner of Promise…for the Savvy Bride in Bethesda, MD. For years she outfitted chic, modern brides in couture dresses. Currently, she handles wholesale accounts for a bridal designer based in Beverly Hills, authors her own wedding and life blog, A Foxy Wedding and continues to offer brides her wedding expertise through her day-of bridal dressing service, Hustle Your Bustle. Phew! When does sleep factor in I wonder? Either way I’m so excited to have her on White Thread today!

Some of the Spring 2010 collections I viewed at bridal market were among my most favored ever, purely for the reason that some of the trends are right up my dramatic gown-loving alley. Seeing the collections not as a buyer for a bridal salon but as a member of the press was an amazing experience! Of course, my buyer’s eye couldn’t help but creep in as I saw each collection!
Overall trends I noticed were soft color, flowers, feminine asymmetrical necklines, tulle, ruffles, feathers, belts, lush draping, and a return to the traditional full skirted silhouette. Sometimes, these trends appeared all together in one gown! An emphasis on grace, movement, and gowns that deliver impact from both the front and the back were everywhere.

The focus on fuller gowns goes hand-in-hand with an emphasis on the fit of the bodice and corseting, showcasing curves and highlighting the proportion of the waist relative to the skirt. A full skirt is always amazing when the bodice fits beautifully and makes the waist appear small! I found myself thinking of Marie Antoinette more than once, and I am really inspired by all the marvelous designs we saw.

The Spring 2010 collections at market left me feeling hopeful, happy, and daydreaming of all the weddings those glorious gowns would be a part of. In this somewhat difficult time for all of us, the uplifting feeling of wearing and seeing something so beautiful is just what we all need.
